Blue Ridge Parkway After Hours Hike
“Haw Creek at Night”(Asheville, N.C.) – Join Parkway rangers on Thursday, August 11 at 7 p.m. for a 3 mile, moderate hike to discover one of the Parkway’s closest views at night. The Haw Creek Valley rock or “lunch rock” is a popular spur trail off the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Come learn about how spur trails are made and other interesting facts about the Parkway at night.
Meet one mile north of the Folk Art Center at Milepost 381.5 at the dirt pull off on the east side of the road. Bring water and a flashlight, wear sturdy shoes or boots, and prepare for changeable weather.

Blue Ridge Parkway Hike of the Week
“From Ferrins to Fire Towers”(Asheville, N.C.) – Join Parkway rangers at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 12 for a moderate, 2 mile round-trip hike to the top of Ferrin Knob on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. During this short but steady climb, we’ll explore the unusual name of the knob and the three Parkway tunnels below it, as well as visit an old fire tower site at the top.
Meet at the Beaver Dam Gap Overlook at Milepost 401.7. Bring water, wear sturdy shoes or boots, and prepare for changeable weather.
