Brevard College alumni jazz concert presents big band swing, Oct. 8

PRESS RELEASE FROM BREVARD COLLEGE:

Homecoming weekend will be filled with music once more at the second annual Alumni Jazz Concert, presented by the Brevard College Music Department on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in The Porter Center for Performing Arts. The performance is free and open to the public.

The concert encourages dancing and fun while listening to a range of music. Jamie Warren, Director of Jazz Studies at Brevard College, will lead the band. Warren graduated from the music program in 2002, and now gives back to his alma mater as a director and a musician. He also encourages alumni to give back to the community, and sharing music with campus and the larger Brevard community is a great way to do that.

The theme of the night is “Big Band Swing.” The musicians have graduated in the last 50 years — 1966 to 2016. Some of the pieces include selections from The Count Basie Orchestra, Cab Calloway, George Gershwin, Thad Jones, Maynard Ferguson, and James Brown.

Be sure to stop by the Spiers Art Gallery on your way into campus, and head to our new turf field to see a game or two over the Homecoming weekend! For a complete schedule of events, visit the Brevard College website.
