To share music with the community beyond its summer festival season, Brevard Music Center (BMC), in partnership with Brevard College and the Osher Lifelong Learning Center (OLLI) in Asheville, is proud to announce its presentation of free community concerts this January and February.
At 3 PM on January 31, trombonist David Jackson will be joined by baritone Daniel Washington and pianist Amy I-Lin Cheng for a delightful performance of chamber music at the Sundays with BMC concert in the Reuter Center on the campus of UNC Asheville. On Monday, February 1 at 12:30 PM, the trio will perform at the First Mondays concert in Scott Concert Hall at The Porter Center on the Brevard College Campus. The musical program will include Sigismond Stojowski’s Fantasy, Adolphus Hailstork’s John Henry, Maurice Ravel’s Habanera, and Eric Ewazen’s Angel of Dreamers.
The popular recital series, which includes First Mondays and Sundays with BMC, is offered at no cost to the general public. First Mondays are held on the first Monday of each month from October through May. Sundays with BMC are held on the Sunday preceding the first Monday of each month. Each Brevard concert also features a local charity highlighting the needs of the community. February’s local charity partner is Transylvania Habitat for Humanity.

About the Artists
David Jackson, Associate Professor of Trombone at the University of Michigan School of Music, has commissioned and premiered numerous compositions for the trombone. He has been a guest performer with numerous orchestras, including The Detroit Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Chicago Symphony, and Cabrillo Music Festival, among others. Mr. Jackson is much in demand as a performer, and has presented numerous guest recitals and master classes at institutions, including The Juilliard School, Yale University, UCLA, The Cincinnati College-Conservatory, as well as the conservatories of Shanghai and Beijing. Mr. Jackson has been on the faculties of Baylor and East Michigan Universities, and spends his summers teaching and performing at various music festivals including the Brevard Music Center.
Daniel Washington has appeared with much acclaim in opera, recitals, and oratorio mainly in Europe, but also in the United States. He has sung leading roles in such prestigious venues as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (London), Opernhaus (Zurich), Staatsoper (Hamburg), Alte Oper (Frankfurt), Theater des Westens (Berlin), Teatro la Fenice (Venice), and most frequently at the Stadttheater in Luzern. He has also been engaged as soloist with orchestras such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony, Bavarian Radio Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Nord Deutsche Sinfonie, Musikverein Wien, and the Czech Philharmonic under such distinguished conductors as Bernard Haitink, Simon Rattle, Charles Mackeras, and John Nelson. Daniel Washington is Professor of Voice and Associate Dean at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.
Born in Taiwan, Amy I-Lin Cheng has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across the United States and abroad, appearing at venues such as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Merkin Concert Hall, Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, and National Concert Hall in Taipei. An avid chamber musician, Amy is the co-Artistic Director of the Brightmusic Chamber Music Ensemble, and pianist for Trio Solari with husband/clarinetist Chad Burrow and violinist Yung-Hsiang Wang. Amy has recorded for labels such as Centaur, Albany and CD Baby. Ms. Cheng holds degrees in Piano Performance from The Curtis Institute of Music (BM), Yale School of Music (MM and Artist Diploma), and the New England Conservatory (DMA). Principal teachers include Claude Frank, Wha-Kyung Byun and Rolf-Peter Wille. She is on faculty at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, and is a faculty member at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival.
