From the campaign:
Asheville, N.C. (January 12, 2016) – Buncombe County Commissioner Ellen Frost has announced she is supporting Jasmine Beach-Ferrara in the District 1 race for County Commission. Frost is a small business owner, a mother, and a grandmother who has represented District 2 since 2013. She won election to her seat in 2012 and again in 2014.
“Jasmine has a history of working with folks of all stripes, beliefs, and economic backgrounds and listening to them. Jasmine cares deeply that children have enough to eat, can attend a safe school and have parents that have living wage jobs and an affordable home to live in. I’ve had a chance to get to know Jasmine over the past few years and her leadership as a non-profit Executive Director and her commitment to social justice and finding common ground are why she has my backing,” says Frost.
“At its best, politics is about people coming together to create a community in which kids, families and elders can thrive. That’s why I’m running and that’s what this campaign is about,” says Beach-Ferrara.
Beach-Ferrara is a Democrat and the founding Executive Director of the Campaign for Southern Equality, an Asheville-based non-profit that promotes LGBT rights throughout the South. Jasmine and her wife, Meghann Burke, live in the East End neighborhood of Asheville with their one-year-old son.
Jasmine’s campaign will hold a Kick-Off event that all community members are invited to on January 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at downtown’s Twisted Laurel (130 College Street, Asheville). The event will feature live music by local artist Lyric.
