Buncombe county announces make-up days for school time lost to winter storm

At-large, Buncombe County Board of Education: Matt Kern, Donna Pate and Amy Smith Wamsley.

Announcement from Buncombe County Schools:

Superintendent Dr. Tony Baldwin today announces the following school calendar adjustments to make-up for lost instructional hours due to recent inclement weather. The following changes include:

 Lost instructional hours for January 22 and 25 school cancellations will be made up by:

  •   Extending the 2015-16 school year to Monday, June 6;
  •   Converting the February 12 Optional Teacher Work Day to a regular student attendance day;
  •   The Early Release Day for students- originally scheduled for February 11- has been rescheduled to a full, regular attendance day for students.

A decision regarding possible make-up adjustments for the January 21 school cancellation for the Erwin and North Buncombe Districts will be determined at a later date.

North Carolina legislation requires a minimum of 185 days or 1,025 hours of instruction. BCS tracks its school year by using the 1,025 hours of instruction option and makes school calendar adjustments accordingly.
