Notice from Buncombe County Public Schools:
On Monday, Aug. 3 at 4 p.m., Buncombe County Schools (BCS) and Verner will break ground on a new, 10-classroom early learning center on the grounds of Emma Elementary School in West Asheville.
Buncombe County has invested $950,000 in the creation of the new center, and has pledged grants of an additional $900,000 over the next two years, through the Early Childhood Education and Development Fund. BCS and Verner have partnered to bring the new center to the grounds of Emma Elementary.
In the Buncombe County Commissioners’ 2025 Strategic Plan, Commissioners envision a county where all residents thrive and demonstrate resilience throughout their lives. An educated and capable community is one of four community focus areas with a goal of increasing kindergarten readiness. The new center represents an expansion of high-quality early learning for the community. The center is scheduled to open in early 2021.
