Community volunteers build new playground at Black Mountain Primary

Press release from YMCA of Western North Carolina:

Volunteers from Foresters Financial, the YMCA of Western North Carolina, Buncombe County Schools, and the community will join KaBOOM! on Saturday, Oct. 6 to transform an empty site into a kid-designed, state-of-the-art playground in just six hours at Black Mountain Primary. The new playground will help make play the easy choice for kids and families in Black Mountain.

The YMCA of Western North Carolina, which has an active afterschool program at Black Mountain Primary, knew the school’s current playground was in desperate need of a makeover. Because the Y is dedicated to strengthening community, it successfully applied for a KaBOOM! grant to transform the space into a safe, fun environment for students and their families.

In August, local kids came together to design their dream playground. The finished product, which is based on their concepts, will be a wonderful place for more than 1,800 kids in Black Mountain to play.

Since 2006, Foresters Financial and KaBOOM! have built 150 beautiful playspaces across 86 cities in 31 states and provinces throughout North America. Thanks to the hard work of more than 9,900 Foresters members, sales partners, and guests for the past 11 years, more than 5 million children have access to play. Through each new playground, families are better able to spend quality time together in their own neighborhoods, playing alongside Foresters members and community partners.

The Black Mountain Primary playground is part of a broader effort led by Foresters Financial and KaBOOM! to ensure communities have great PLAYces for kids and families. It will be the 151st build by Foresters Financial. Through this partnership, KaBOOM! and Foresters Financial are creating an oasis where kids feel valued and loved, and where their potential is supported, nurtured, and celebrated.
