Cradle to Grave race goes virtual for Sept. 2020

Press release from FIND Outdoors:

FIND Outdoors, one of Brevard’s longest-operating local nonprofits, will hold its eighth annual Cradle to Grave 30k & 10k trail races virtually from September 5th – 12th 2020 to adhere to guidelines concerning COVID-19 and ensure the safety of the racers.

“The safety of our racers, staff and our community is our main priority at all times”, says Natalie Britt, President/CEO of FIND Outdoors. “We look forward to experimenting with the race in a way that will allow us to remain socially responsible but continue as an important community event of our organization’s legacy.”

The 30K and 10K trail race, a staple community event for Transylvania County, is currently in its eighth year and will be presented with enthusiasm by Morrow Insurance of Hendersonville. The race serves as an annual fundraiser for the Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah National Forest and attracts hundreds of trail runners from all over the country who want a shot at stealing the coveted top prize. “The support for this race has been amazing”, says Cradle of Forestry Director of Operations Clay Wooldridge, “We’re so proud to be able to provide such an amazing experience for the visitors to Pisgah National Forest year after year, even if held in a virtual capacity.”

In an effort to remain socially responsible and safe, participants will be able to complete the race for either distances wherever they choose! “Complete the race anywhere you can practice social distancing – even a treadmill from your own home,” exclaimed Wooldridge. “However, we would love for you to run the race on the intended course, through the Pink Beds and summiting on Slate Rock if at all possible to keep the spirit of this incredible race alive.” Registrants will

receive a free Day Pass to the Cradle of Forestry in the event that some of the more adventurous souls will take to the trails to complete their race.
Because the Cradle to Grave race is one of the Cradle of Forestry’s biggest yearly fundraisers, FIND Outdoors is committed to making the race as exciting as possible for everyone involved. “This race is an important aspect of our fundraising for the season,” concluded Wooldridge. “Participation for this race will directly support Cradle of Forestry staff that work hard to keep the Cradle open during this challenging time while helping plan programming and events for the future.”

All proceeds for the Cradle to Grave Virtual Race will benefit the work of FIND Outdoors, a 47- year-old nonprofit based out of Pisgah Forest, NC that supports a mission of “educational, recreational and interpretive opportunities about forest and water resources, natural history and the Cradle of Forestry in America.”

Tickets are still available for the race. For more info or to purchase, please visit www.cradletograverace.com or contact Clay Wooldridge at cradle@gofindoutdoors.com.
