Cristal Figueroa to run for State Senate District 48

Cristal Figueroa

Press release from Figuera for N.C. Senate 2020:

On Monday, Sept. 16, Henderson County native and democrat Cristal Figueroa will announce her candidacy for North Carolina State Senate District 48.

Figueroa is running because she believes that it’s time for the people of District 48 to have a strong representative who will fight for a better future and that new ideas need to be brought to the table. As a young Mexican American, she believes that a community is stronger when it stands together.

Figueroa graduated from UNC Asheville with a bachelor’s in political science. She has volunteered to aid victims of domestic violence, works with children who have learning disabilities, and is a legal aid to a local immigration attorney.

As a millennial, Figueroa has a different prospective on the issues that face not only the people of District 48, but all North Carolinians.

“I’m excited to bring a fresh perspective to the problems and solutions facing our district” Figueroa said, “I’m looking forward to running a campaign that will bring our community together and show that diversity is our strength.”

Her major issues are education, environmental concerns, economic growth, and immigration.
