David Holt and the Lighting Bolts perform at Lake Junaluska, Nov. 12

Press release from Lake Junaluska:

David Holt and the Lighting Bolts will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Lake Junaluska. This “Party for the Earth” is open to the public, and tickets are $18.

Holt is a four-time Grammy Award winner. During the concert, he will play more than 10 instruments in his unique style of mountain music and storytelling.

The concert is part of the Interfaith Peace Conference at Lake Junaluska, which strives to advance the work of reconciliation between Jews, Christians, Muslims and other religious traditions. The Nov. 10-13 conference features lectures, workshops, interfaith worship and music.

“We all share the same planet, regardless of our beliefs,” Holt said. “Music is a common thread among all people. Mountain music has been bringing people together for generations. It is full of joy, wisdom and spirit. It also preserves traditions worth studying as we face the need to find simpler ways to live.”

Music has often been a part of the Interfaith Peace Conference, but this year the planners said they hope to get more members of the local community involved in the event.

“Music builds community. We came up with the idea for the ‘Party for the Earth’ to open the Interfaith Peace Conference to the wider community,” said Frank Stith, who helped plan the conference. “David Holt fits the theme and has a huge background and a deep understanding of Americana music. Plus, we know he’ll make it fun!”

The theme of this year’s conference is “the climate crisis and peace.” Speakers will discuss how and why people of faith should and can be involved in the greatest threat to peace: climate change.

Speakers include Dr. Norman Wirzba, professor of theology, ecology, and agrarian studies at Duke Divinity School, and Jacqueline Patterson, director of the NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice Program.
