From a Press Release:
Dedication ceremony for the Arthur R. Edington Education and Career Center
Saturday, November 1st, 2014
12pm – 1pm
133 Livingston Street
Asheville, North Carolina 28801
The Housing Authority is finishing renovations to the historical W.C. Reid Center. We are renaming the building after Mr. Edington, former principal of Livingston Street School ’60-‘69. The buildings’ function will be a green jobs training and education center. Partners envision the center as a place where people from the surrounding neighborhoods could access education, job training, support services and other resources that help them achieve greater self-sufficiency and empowerment. As such, the renovation of the building itself has provided ongoing opportunities to train and employ locals, especially public housing residents.
This project is funded in part by HUD through a competitive grant the housing authority was awarded and by the City of Asheville. All are welcome to this special event. The event will close with a tour of the facility.
