FMC Scholarship winners to perform at Isothermal Community College

Two Foothills Music Club, Inc. scholarship winners will take the stage at FMC’s upcoming January 9 concert at Isothermal (Polk Campus). Both women are high school seniors.

Kate Riedy, soprano, will perform “O mio babbino caro” by Puccini and “Far From the Home I Love” by Jerry Bock, from Fiddler on the Roof. Miss Riedy stars as Tzeitel in Tryon Little Theater’s production of Fiddler scheduled for February. Kate studies voice with Foothills Music Club member Mary Meyers.

Alto saxophone player Katherine Barker will perform the “Allemande” from Partita in A Minor (written for flute) by Johann Sebastian Bach. In addition to music, Katherine enjoys computer engineering and a good book.

Sharing the program with these scholarship winners are several FMC members, including Karen Killough (piano), Jeri Board (soprano), Meryt Wilson (piano), Karen Molnar (bassoon), and Jeanette Comer (soprano).

This concert will be held at the Polk campus of Isothermal Community College in Columbus, NC, on Thursday, January 9, at 3 PM. It is free and open to the public; donations to the Foothills Music Scholarship Fund will be accepted.

Auditions for FMC’s 2014 music scholarship applicants are scheduled for March; FMC encourages young musicians to contact music teachers or visit www.foothillsmusicclub.org for further information.
