Press release from the John C. Campbell Folk School:
November’s cooler temperatures and falling leaves encourage a return to festive indoor gatherings. The John C. Campbell Folk School’s annual Blacksmith & Fine Craft Auction has become a premier seasonal event, drawing area residents, Folk School supporters, and regional visitors. This year’s auction, set for Saturday, November 7 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., takes place on the School’s scenic Brasstown, North Carolina campus. Attendees will gather in the Keith House Community Room to preview the Silent and Live Auctions featuring dozens of fine crafts including forged metal, pottery, fiber, jewelry, and wood items will be displayed. Auction proceeds support the Folk School’s Clay Spencer Blacksmith Shop, home to the school’s nationally known artist blacksmith program. The auctions also benefit other Folk School craft, music, dance, and cooking programs. Auction admission is free.
The program will begin with a Silent Auction from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees will bid on finely made crafts that would enhance their homes or make valued gifts. Folk School Resident Artists, instructors, students, and Folk School friends have generously donated these quality works. Auction-goers can preview Live Auction items before this event takes place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Folk School Director Jan Davidson will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the Live Auction. While Folk School assistants showcase each striking piece, auctioneers Tim Ryan and Bob Grove will lead the lively bidding.
As the Auction date nears, the Auction Blog Page showcases a gallery of fine crafts and participating artists: www.folkschool.org/auction. Folk School supporters who can’t attend the Auction on Nov 7, but who want to contribute to its success, can place bids in an eBay fine craft auction beginning on November 4. For Blacksmith & Fine Craft Auction details, call the John C. Campbell Folk School at 828-837-2775, or visit www.folkschool.org. The John C. Campbell Folk School is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
