Wear Orange was inspired by friends of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old Chicago high school student killed by gunfire, who decided to honor her life by wearing orange – the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. On June 2, 2015, what would have been Hadiya’s 18th birthday, more than 200 organizations and influencers asked people nationwide to join them by wearing orange to honor her life, the lives of the more than 90 Americans killed by gun violence and the hundreds more who are injured every day. Last year the #WearOrange message reached more than 220 million people on June 2nd, this year we need your help to make Wear Orange bigger and louder.
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a national, grassroots, non-partisan gun violence prevention organization made up of American moms, dads, and supporters who believe we can support the second amendment while doing more to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. Together with Everytown for Gun Safety (Everytown.org) and Mayors Against Illegal Guns (Everytown.org/mayors/) we have over 3.5 million members and we are growing quickly since our inception following Sandy Hook. Our goal is to save lives and change the culture of gun violence which kills over 30,000 Americans per year, or 90 every day. Join us: MomsDemandAction.org
