Habitat accepting applications for new Candler neighborhood

Press release from Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity:

Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity is currently accepting homeownership applications for its upcoming Curry Court neighborhood in Candler, which will include a mix of single-family homes and townhomes. Buncombe County residents who earn 70% or less of AMI (Area Median Income) and are interested in affordable homeownership are encouraged to review qualifications and apply.

Habitat invites those who are interested in building a better future on the foundation of a safe, stable home to attend a 1-hour Information Session at Habitat’s Office (33 Meadow Rd. Asheville) on Wednesday, November 7 at 6pm or Saturday, December 15 at 10am. This is a great opportunity to learn all the ins and outs of the program and ask questions.

“My Habitat mortgage is less than half of what I was paying in rent,” noted Ashley who just last week signed her mortgage documents and moved into her new Habitat home. Other stories of life-changing impact include parents allowing their children to play outside for the first time ever; because their Habitat neighborhood is safe, but the community they lived in previously was not. Others note improvements in health conditions like chronic asthma that clear up after moving from a sub-standard rental unit with mold and mildew to a Healthy Built NC Habitat home. If you or someone you know works hard but falls short because of the huge discrepancy between our region’s high housing costs and low wages, consider Habitat’s homeownership program as an opportunity to build a better future.

To date, Asheville Habitat has served more than 550 families, and in the next decade the non-profit will serve 1,000 more families in need of safe, stable housing.
