Press Release from Haywood Regional Medical Center:
Haywood Regional Health and Fitness Center will hold an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification course beginning in January. The dates of the course will be Jan. 17, 19, 21, 24 and 26. The Saturday, Jan. 21 class will be from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and all other dates will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Course fee is $235 for fitness center members, $255 for non-members.
Successful completion of American Red Cross Lifeguard Training yields a two-year lifeguard certification and two-year CPR/AED/First Aid certification, suitable for employment at pool settings in all 50 states. Participants must be fifteen years of age or older, and have parental permission in order to take part in this course. Lifeguard Training is a demanding course, both intellectually and physically. In order to take part in the course, all participants must fully complete in-water pre-qualification testing on the first day of class. Exclusions in participation may apply if minimum standards are not met. Participation does not guarantee certification; all participants must pass written and practical course exams on the final day of class in order to receive certification.
Persons interested in taking this course but are unsure of whether or not they meet the initial requirements are urged to contact the Haywood Regional Health and Fitness Center Aquatics office at 828.452.8056 in advance, for further advisement prior to registering.
