Press release:
Mark Meadows’s Constituents Invite Absentee Congressman to Town Hall
Hendersonville, NC—For weeks, Hendersonville-area residents have been asking for a public meeting with their Congressman, Mark Meadows. Due to a negative response from Meadows, frustrated residents have arranged a town hall meeting to provide residents with the opportunity to publicly voice their concerns without him.
The forum, hosted by the grassroots, citizen-organized Hendersonville Indivisible, will feature speakers on healthcare, immigration and the environment. It will also showcase residents who will share their personal experiences dealing with these issues.
While Meadows appears on Washington-based news programs, attends local fundraisers, and visits with private businesses and media outlets, he hasn’t responded to requests with the people he is supposed to represent: the constituents of North Carolina’s’s 11th Congressional District.
“Remaining silent and staying away from our district isn’t acceptable. As Mark Meadows’ constituents, we deserve the chance to hear from our congressman, but he isn’t listening,” says Jennifer Jenkins, Hendersonville Indivisible’s Group Leader.
“If Mark Meadows won’t arrange a town hall, we’ll do it for him. We believe it is important to provide this forum to ensure our democracy functions the way it’s supposed to. It’s just unfortunate our own Congressman doesn’t believe in those same principles of transparency, accountability, and responsibility.”
