“Holiday Magic” at Asheville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center

Press release from The Vanishing Wheelchair:

Join the magician founders of the public charity The Vanishing Wheelchair, Inc. to share the magic of the season at Asheville Nursing & Rehabilitation Resident Council, 91 Victoria Road in Asheville December 10 at 3:00 p.m. The family-friendly hour-long magic, music, and storytelling show is only $5 general admission, with children 3 years old and under free. Funds raised will benefit the Annual Residents Christmas Party and holiday events.

Music and magic will fill the center to reinforce the love of the season, and demonstrate that every person, no matter what level of ability, has a place in this world. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was made fun of because of his glowing nose,” Ricky D. Boone, co-founder and director of The Vanishing Wheelchair, Inc. recalls, “but Santa knew it was the only thing that would cut through that thick fog.”

The Vanishing Wheelchair, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity that helps people with disabilities find their passion in life through the arts. Founded by Ricky Boone and T.J. Shimeld, it is inspired by the mystifying misdirection of Ricky who uses magic and comedy to make his disability a great ability. Loretta Faircloth is activity director at Asheville Nursing & Rehabilitation, and Ricky Boone’s sister, and thought the inspirational variety show of The Vanishing Wheelchair is perfect for the season of giving. “I hope to raise enough money to buy our residents a small gift for Christmas,” explains Loretta, “and maybe a better used piano. Ours is awful!”

The Vanishing Wheelchair, Inc. wishes to raise funds to establish a universally accessible hands-on museum centered around a magic show for children of all abilities to explore the arts and sciences at which people with disabilities can work and learn skills in performing, painting, photography, music, crafts, and wood working. “Just like the old Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer movie,” Ricky jokes, “we wish to find a loving home for misfit toys.”

Tickets are $5 general admission. Seating is limited; to reserve your tickets, call Loretta Faircloth 828-255-0076 ext. 216. Tickets may also be purchased in person with Ricky Boone at Magic Central, 175 Weaverville Highway, Suite L, Asheville, North Carolina  28804, or call 828-645-2941.
