Hopscotch Primary Care offers free community activities for National Movement Month in April

Press release from Hopscotch Primary Care:

April is National Move More Month, a campaign promoted by the American Heart Association to encourage Americans to increase their physical activity. Hopscotch Primary Care, the largest provider of healthcare services devoted exclusively to senior citizens in Western North Carolina, is offering community events ranging from Beginner’s Chair Yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi. The events are open to the public and encouraged for seniors to improve overall health.
“Numerous studies have shown physical activity is important for many reasons,” said Chuck Dugan, Medical Director at Hopscotch Primary Care. “From an overall physical health perspective, regular exercise reduces the risk of chronic disease, improves heart health, assists with weight management, and improves immune function. For our elderly patients at risk for bone loss, physical activities like walking are important to help maintain strong bones and joints and reduce the risk for fractures.”
Dugan added that a recent study by Science Daily concluded that even a few minutes of exercise per day can help reduce the risk of dementia.
“Additional benefits of physical activity typically include overall improved mood and reduced stress levels. This helps prevent the onset of depression, anxiety, and poor sleep,” Dugan added.
Wednesday, April 9th:
●     Beginner’s Chair Yoga and Pilates for Seniors – begins at 1 p.m. at Flow to Be Yoga Studio at 1767 East Court Street, Marion NC
●     TAI CHI: Every Thursday in April (April 3, 10, 17, 24) at 11:30 a.m. at Corpening Memorial YMCA, 348 Grace Corpening Drive, Marion NC
