Jazz Singer Serpentine Arborvitae to Kick-off Wineseller’s Second Summer Jazz Series on July 5

Waynesville, NC – Enjoy the music of the area’s top jazz performers during the 2014 Summer Jazz Series at the Classic Wineseller, 20 Church Street in Waynesville. The series takes place on four consecutive Saturdays in July: July 5, July 12, July 19, and July 26 at 7:00pm. Each night includes a lavish four-course dinner with live jazz for $39.99 per person. Saturday, July 5: Serpentine Jazz: Songs recorded by Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone. Serpentine Arborvitae, vocals; Michael Jefry Stevens, piano; Mike Holstein, upright bass;

Saturday, July 12: Jesse Junior Quartet: Gershwin & Berlin. Jesse Junior, vocals: Richard Schulman, piano; Zack Page, bass; Justin Watt, drums;
Saturday, July 19: Rockell Scott and Bill Bares: Standards from the Great American Songbook. Rockell Scott, vocals; Bill Bares, piano; and,
Saturday, July 26: Radiance Quartet: Latin Jazz. Justin Powell, piano; Tyler Kittle Tenor Sax; Michael W Davis, drums.

Serpentine Arborvitae, a name that conjures images from the biblical Garden of Eden, is a critically acclaimed jazz vocalist/recording artist and composer. On Saturday July 5th at the Classic Wineseller, Ms. Arborvitae will present a tribute to American jazz divas entitled, Red Hot & Blue, featuring songs recorded by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nina Simone. Joining Arborvitae are local superstars Steinway Piano Artist Michael Jefry Stevens and bassist Mike Holstein.

On Saturday, July 12th Jesse Earl Junior, long time jazz singer on the New York jazz scene (and now the Asheville jazz scene), will perform songs of Gershwin and Berlin. Joining Mr. Junior are pianist Richard Schulman; bassist Zack Page; and, drummer Justin Watt.

A former jazz singer with the United States Air Force, vocal powerhouse Rockell Scott has selected songs from the Great American Songbook for her show with pianist Bill Bares on Saturday, July 19th at 7:00 pm at the Classic Wineseller.

On Saturday, July 26th the Classic Wineseller introduces Waynesville resident and pianist Justin W. Powell to the stage with the Radiance Jazz Quartet. Mr. Powell (piano) will be joined by Tyler Kittle on tenor saxophone, Michael W Davis on drums, and a bassist.

The Classic Wineseller, Waynesville’s premier retail wine and craft beer shop, small plate restaurant, and intimate live music venue presents local, regional, or national talent every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 7pm. The Wineseller’s restaurant opens at 4:00 pm Wednesday through Saturday serving freshly prepared small plate and tapas-style fare.
