Saxophonist Jeff Coffin, perhaps best known for his work with Dave Matthews Band (or, as one press release suggests, for always doing the unexpected), alos keeps busy with his side project, The Mu’tet. That group, a rotating cast of musicians, currently includes Felix Pastorious, Roy “Futureman” Wooten, Bill Fanning and Chris “the Pianimator” Walters. Coffin and The Mu’tet pay a visit to Pisgah Brewing — a regular stop foe the saxophonist over the past four years. The show is Friday, Oct. 11. 9 p.m., $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
“Coffin strives to expand himself, his band mates and listeners, with music flavored by his wide musical interests,” says press for the event. “Drawing from the deep wells of African, New Orleans, Indian, funk, jazz, folk, Gypsy, rock, fusion, Brazilian and other styles of music, Coffin sends shockwaves down people’s spines with his fierce soloing and inspiring, memorable compositions. A passionate and curious musician, Coffin is known to use guitar effects on his sax, which he calls ‘electro-sax’ as well as sometimes playing two saxes at the same time.”
