Knives and Daggers, Heaven play The Mothlight on Oct. 29

New York City-based Heaven speaks less to a spiritual afterlife and more to a “seven minutes in heaven” kind of promised land. The trio (Matt Sumrow, Mikey Jones, Ryan Lee Dunlap) taps the hush and swagger, the compressed noise and darkened basements, the leather jackets and black eyeliner of ’80s new wave in a way that feels wholly authentic for those of us who were there. And, at the same time, resolutely of the moment.

Or catch the band’s love show at The Mothlight on Tuesday, Oct. 29, with local headliner Knives and Daggers. 9:30 p.m., $8.

Knives and Daggers “is a dynamically turbulent, noisily emotional blend of shoegaze and heavy-riffed post rock,” according to the band’s website. “Three fuzz guitars take turns with rhythm and lead, drone and echo, and carefully composed harmonies, sometimes accompanied by classical string instruments. The drums and bass are steadfast and effortlessly assemble the rhythm through the graceful tangle of the guitars.”
