Press release

Asheville artist Julyan Davis is hosting a studio sale of select artwork to benefit Helpmate, the only crisis-services provider for victims of domestic violence in Buncombe County. The event will be held at Davis’ studio at 2004 Riverside Drive on Friday, Dec 11, from 5-8 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m., to 4 p.m., with 100% of proceeds benefiting the shelter.

The paintings on sale will cover the range of Davis’ subject matter: from landscapes and urban scenes to interiors, and bring together work from Maine to Charleston, and much of Western North Carolina. A performance of traditional ballads will be provided by Greg and Lucretia Speas.

The work of British-born Davis is exhibited internationally, and is in many public and private collections. Recent acquisitions include the Gibbes Museum in Charleston, the Greenville County Museum of Art (South Carolina), the Morris Museum (Augusta, GA) and the North Carolina Governor’s Mansion and Western Residence. His newest work, interpreting traditional American ballads through the contemporary South, has been touring museums with accompanying lectures and musical performances. The ballad series directly addresses violence against women, and Davis’ work has also been shown recently to support the Charlotte Metropolitan Human Trafficking Task Force.

Julyan Davis is represented locally by Blue Spiral 1 Gallery.
