Local groups plan rally at Pack Square Park to support the count of every vote

Press release from Indivisible Asheville:

Asheville area residents will gather peacefully at this pro-democracy, community-centered event to ensure that every vote be counted, even if it takes days or weeks to get an accurate count. Attendees will celebrate the outstanding work of our local and state Boards of Elections, and will call on all of our state officials as well as the Congress, the Electoral College, and the American people to honor the results of a complete and accurate count.

This peaceful gathering will include speakers and music, and will feature Buncombe County Commissioner Jasmine Beach-Ferrara and local Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville minister Rev. Claudia Jimenez.

WHAT: Rally to Protect the Results & Count Every Vote

WHO:  Indivisible Asheville/WNC & Local Community Members

WHEN:  Wednesday, November 4, 2020, 4-5pm

WHERE: Pack Square Park, 80 Court Plaza (across from Fire Department)

“Counting every ballot is a crucial part of the democratic process,” said Brenda Murphree of Indivisible Asheville/WNC. “Especially now when we are in the middle of a pandemic, with an unprecedented number of absentee and early voting ballots already cast, we know it will take time to count every vote.”

All attendees will be required to wear masks and maintain safe social distancing.

Strong visuals include pro-democracy banners and signs, music by local musicians, safely masked and socially distanced attendees, and local community leaders.

The local gathering is part of a nationwide Protect the Results effort, led by a coalition of over 110 organizations with coordinated gatherings in over 500 communities across the country.

Indivisible Asheville/WNC is a local non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting democracy with informed community action in Western North Carolina. For more information, visit IndivisibleAVL.org.
