Local painter Julie Armbruster debuts her multi-mural project at Stephens-Lee Recreation Center

Local painter Julie Arbruster dreams up vibrant human-animal hybrids, which she enjoys displaying in unlikely settings like skate shops and records stores. Her latest troupe of imaginative beings is a lucky bunch, as the whimsical creatures will be spending all of their time at the City of Asheville’s Stephens-Lee Recreation Center. Armbruster just completed three new murals there, including a large display in the building’s after-school room. She calls the project “the coolest thing I’ve ever done!”
