Mary Kay Andrews to visit Mars Hill

PRESS RELEASE:

New York Times best selling author Mary Kay Andrews will speak at an author’s luncheon in Mars Hill on Thursday, June 2. In addition to the program and book signing by Andrews, there will be a full buffet luncheon and silent auction.  It will be held from 11:00 until 2:00 at the Redway Room at Pittman Dining Hall on the campus of Mars Hill University. Last year’s luncheon was held at the same location, and garnered rave reviews. The event is being sponsored by Friends of the Madison County Library, and will raise funds for library reading programs and the MCPL-Marshall.
Andrews began her writing career as a reporter for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Under her real name, Kathy Hogan Trocheck, she wrote 10 critically acclaimed mystery novels. She followed this series with a novel entitled Savannah Blues, which was so different from her previous work that she decided to write under a pseudonym. “It’s been very liberating to become someone else—if only for a few hours a day,” says Andrews, who combined her children’s names—Mary Kathleen and Andrew—to create her pen name, under which she has published 15 novels.
In addition to writing about wacky Southern families and their often humorous adventures, Andrews enjoys shopping for antiques. “My late mother was a world-class junker…and I’ve inherited that tendency,” she says. “My sport is extreme junking.”
Andrews’ appearance in Mars Hill is part of her current tour introducing her latest book, The Weekenders. The novel is set on a fictional barrier island off the coast of North Carolina called Belle Isle, and is scheduled for release on May 17. Books will be available for purchase at the luncheon.
Tickets cost $40, and are on sale now at all three libraries in Madison County and at the Weaverville Library.  For more information, call the library at 828-649-3741.
