Michelin donates tires to Wheels4Hope for local families in need

Asheville, NC August 3, 2016 — Michelin North America delivered the first of four shipments of donated tires to Wheels4Hope Asheville. On Friday, the first set was placed on a donated 1998 Toyota Avalon that had been repaired by Wheels4Hope in preparation for placement with a local family. The recipient was referred by the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministries Steadfast House, a shelter that provides homeless women and their children with a fresh start and a place to heal.

The recipient said, “This car gives me peace of mind. Now, I know I can get to work even when my shift starts at 5:30 in the morning. I’ll be able to drive to my classes this fall at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, to appointments around town, and to the grocery store. Thank you!”

“These donated tires are so valuable to us. The money saved can be invested in other mechanical repairs, allowing us to get more of these donated cars on the road for local families,” said Jamie Beasley, Coordinator of Wheels4Hope Asheville.

Michelin has been a part of the tire industry in the United States since 1907. Today, the company operates 19 plants in 16 locations, employs 22,000 people, and generates $10.76 billion dollar per year. Michelin manufactures tires in six states: Alabama, Indiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina and South Carolina with headquarters located in Greenville, South Carolina.

About Wheels4Hope
Wheels4Hope is a volunteer-driven, faith-based, non-profit organization that repairs donated cars and matches them with economically-vulnerable people who need them. We know that reliable transportation is critical to survive and thrive in this community, allowing people to care for their basic needs, remain employed, and spend time with their children. A car that starts opens the door to education, employment, and an improved quality of life.

Our collaborative model bolsters the work of trusted, local partners (Helpmate, Homeward Bound, Habitat for Humanity, ABCCM’s Steadfast House, Mary Benson House, Community Action Opportunities, and the YWCA) by placing the vehicles with their clients – the ones they believe need them the most.

Since its inception in 2000, Wheels4Hope has placed over 1,000 cars with individuals and families across North Carolina, transforming the lives of over 2,500 adults and children.
