From a press release:

Midsummer Music Soiree at Black Mountain’s Roots and Fruits Market, July 18

New York City’s Jean Rohe and Skye Steele will serenade the people of Black Mountain and the plants of the Roots and Fruits Market garden with their enchanting acoustic music on the evening of Friday, July 18.  Jean and Skye will perform original songs of unclassifiable genre, spanning the worlds of folk, jazz, latin and more.

“ ‘A sure-footed young singer-songwriter,’ in the words of The New York Times, Jean Rohe has been captivating audiences for years with her one-of-a-kind narrative songs. Hailed as ‘masterful’ (Daily News) and ‘enchanting’ (Elmore), her latest release, Jean Rohe & the End of the World Show, is a travelogue, relating stories in several languages from her lone journeys through her city and beyond” (jeanrohe.com).  Skye Steele is a songwriter, improvising violinist, and composer who plays with Jean in her 10-piece band as well as The Skye Steele Quintet and Hot Holy Mess.

The event will be held outdoors at Roots and Fruits Market, 151 S Ridgeway Ave, Black Mountain, at 6:30pm.  Sliding scale donation of $5-15 is encouraged to support the traveling musicians.  Light refreshments will be served.

Roots and Fruits Market, which just opened up this February, strives to “grow community through food.”  The garden in full bloom is an excellent environment to host community events involving music and gardening, a vision shared by owner Sheila Nuccilli and the rest of the team . “I think Jean Rohe is one of the most innovative songwriters around these days, and as soon as I heard that her and Skye were booking a southern tour, I knew I had to create an opportunity for them to share their beautiful and meaningful music with the community,” says Searra Gisondo, Roots and Fruits Market’s garden manager, and also a songwriter herself who will open up for them with a set.
