Moffitt ranked NC’s ‘most effective legislator’

Here’s an excerpt from the announcement via Rep. Tim Moffitt’s political marketing website:

Representative Tim Moffitt was ranked North Carolina’s most effective legislator, according to a recent analysis by the Insider State Government News Service. Moffitt represents the western part of Buncombe County.

The report ranked legislators in each of five categories, including the percentage of bills as primary sponsor which have become law. Moffitt ranked #1 across all five categories among all 170 members of the House and Senate. 45 of Moffitt’s bills became law during the 2013-2014 biennium; that’s about 8% of all the new laws enacted this session.

According to the report, Moffitt moved up 37 spots, from when he was ranked as a freshman in 2011-2012. Moffitt credits his increased productivity to things he learned during that first session. “I think I’m a better mechanic,” said Moffitt. “I have a better sense of how things work under the hood and how to make them work better.”

Moffitt was the primary sponsor of some key legislation this session to improve government efficiency, strengthen property rights, and grow the economy. These include Tax Reform, Regulatory Reform, and a law which had the effect of creating an entirely new industry in North Carolina. Last session, Moffitt was the sole sponsor of a law that ended forced annexation by city governments.

“I’ve been able to build on the successes of my first term,” said Representative Moffitt. “I applied the the things I learned as a freshman to improve my approach to crafting and advancing legislation going forward in this term.”

Underscoring the bipartisan nature of Moffitt’s work, of all the bills for which Moffitt was a primary sponsor, half were passed with unanimous support. On average, he had 32 Democratic votes on each bill that became law of which he was a primary sponsor — approximately 74% of the entire Democratic Caucus. On average, only 8.5% of the legislature voted against the bills that Moffitt sponsored which became law.

The analysis was compiled by Clifton Dowell of the Insider State Government News Service, which is targeted to government affairs professionals in North Carolina and owned by the News News & Observer Publishing Company.

“Effective” …And yet he was unable to get a bill passed outlawing the topless rally. Something we need, unlike the theft of our water system or airport, or a surveillance-friendly drone bill, or a Duke-friendly coal ash bill, Rep. Turner’s Opponent was unable to get that one done for us.
