Nashville artist Patrick Sweany plays the Grey Eagle this Friday, April 10

Nashville guitarist Patrick Sweany returns to Asheville for a show at the Grey Eagle on Friday, April 10, at 9 p.m. His original Asheville show, scheduled for March 5, was cancelled due to icy conditions on interstate 40. Although he’s played locally many times, the artist will feature new band mates and several songs from his upcoming album to keep the rescheduled show fresh. Joe Fletcher opens the show. Tickets are $12 ($15 day of show), and all tickets from the canceled date will be honored.

Here is the full release on Sweany’s show from Nine Mile Records and Touring:

This is a rescheduled show from March 5 that was cancelled due to snow storms on I-40.

Sweany has played Asheville many times over his career. This time around he brings a new band and some new songs from his forthcoming as-yet-untitled full-length record. the new record comes out in the summer of 2015 and will be Sweany’s 7th full-length album.

As of late, Sweany is enjoying a big surge in his career. His early associations with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys (Auerbach played in Sweany’s band for a few years and has gone on to produce and play on some of his seminal records), coupled with Sweany’s relentless tour schedule and high profile festival appearances have created a growing fanbase for the 40 year old blues-roots artist.

“It’d been a bit of a slow burn,” says Sweany about the slow, steady ascent of his popularity. “I like to think it’s because I just keep getting better,” he jokes. “But in reality I think it just takes a long time to cut through the thousands of musicians and millions of songs that are out there. I don’t write hit singles – but we work extremely hard on the live show and I think people have come to appreciate it. They know they are gonna walk out of the club as exhausted as we are on stage!”

It’s true – reports from festival goers and comments on Patrick’s Facebook page are often exclamations about his energy and power in concert, whether it’s being dubbed the “sleeper act” at last year’s Telluride Blues & Brews, or unleashing a rowdy, electric version of the Rolling Stones’ “Happy” on unsuspecting folk fans at Merlefest.

“You have to fight to get people’s attention these days,” Sweany adds. “And once you have it, you gotta hold on.”

Opener Joe Fletcher, a good friend of Sweany’s, is also known for his captivating stage presence, as well as his smart wordsmithing and gruff delivery.

Tickets are $12adv/$15dos; doors open at 8pm with music starting at 9pm. All March 5 tickets will be honored.
