NC insurance commissioner Mike Causey to visit Haywood, Buncombe counties

Press release from North Carolina Department of Insurance:

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey plans to help deliver children’s fire prevention coloring books to fire stations and stop by insurance agencies during a visit to Haywood and Buncombe counties on Monday, Oct. 12.

Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will join independent insurance agents as they present fire-prevention themed coloring books and stickers to fire departments, so they can give them out to children.

The coloring books and stickers are part of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina’s Operation EDITH fire safety program. “EDITH” is an acronym for Exit Drill In The Home.”

While at a Haywood County fire station, Commissioner Causey will present ceremonial matching grant checks to fire departments. Four Haywood County volunteer fire departments received more than $43,000 from the matching grant program to purchase equipment. Statewide, more than 500 volunteer fire departments received more than $8.5 million from the matching grant program.

While at the fire stations, Commissioner Causey will listen to firefighters’ concerns and discuss the need to improve volunteer recruitment and retention. He will get a first-hand look at the West Buncombe Fire Department initiative to recruit volunteers.
