Announcement from NC Department of Transportation:
N.C. Department of Transportation officials expect to open a new exit ramp from Interstate 26 West to Brevard Road this evening.
The new ramp is a major component of the $47.4 million improvement project on Brevard Road (N.C. 191) that will increase safety and mobility on I-26 and Brevard Road.
The new ramp begins about a quarter mile northwest of the existing exit ramp and loops traffic around a car dealership before intersecting with Brevard Road. This new ramp, about 900 feet longer than the previous ramp, will increase capacity for vehicles departing the interstate.
Construction on the project began in the spring of 2016. The project includes new bridges on Brevard Road over I-26 that will allow for more capacity on Brevard Road and room for the expansion of I-26.
