In the kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death and suffering are the stuff of their dreams. Nonetheless, this quirky family still has to deal with many of the same challenges faced by any other family – namely, the Addams’ kids are growing up. Dark, macabre daughter, Wednesday, has turned eighteen and fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart boy from a “normal,” respectable family. To complicate matters, Wednesday has invited the Beinekes to the Addams’ family home for dinner. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships tested and the Addams family, as well as the Beinekes, will see their lives transformed.
The musical is directed by Rick Webb who is celebrating his 21st year as director of the NBHS drama department. “I know many people will think a musical about the Addams Family would be very dark, but this is actually one of the most cleverly written, toe-tapping, happy-go-lucky, up-lifting and inspiring musicals that has been produced in a while,” said Webb. “I am excited to present this musical because it has such outlandish and iconic characters put in a very universal scenario. Ultimately this show is about the importance and value of family.” Musical direction is by Linda Jones.
Over 80 students will be sharing their talents both on stage, behind the scenes and in the orchestra pit. Money raised from the production will help fund future productions as well as provide supplies, updated technology and educational enrichment opportunities for the theatre program.
