Open air art exhibit with French Broad River theme to benefit RiverLink, Oct. 23

Fourteen of Asheville’s  most accomplished  artists will capture the rapidly changing river with a  plein air art exhibit to benefit RiverLink’s riverfront revitalization efforts. Artists interpret the French Broad River through drawing and painting, much of it from direct observation. All of this artistic reflection will culminate in an initial private showing and exclusive sale of the works.

Please join us on Thursday, October 23, from 6 to 9 pm at Sol’s Reprieve for a private artists reception where you can meet and speak to the artist and witness the unveiling of these new works with an opportunity to be the first to purchase these images of a river that is changing.

The Of Time and The River Exhibit will be held in the spectacular setting of Sol’s Reprieve on the west bank of the river in a former church perched on a high bluff overlooking the French Broad River and the New Belgium Brewery site. Sol’s Reprieve offers a panoramic view of the on-going construction at the new brewery, as well as a unique vantage point to appreciate one of Asheville’s oldest mill villages known as Chicken Hill. Chicken Hill, like so much of the urban riverfront and adjacent neighborhoods is experiencing much change. Sol’s Reprieve offers views and vantage point not often seen by the public.

Join us for a delicious array of heavy hors d’oeuvres prepared and presented by Aaron Bryant, Director of Catering Services Whole Foods, who will be on hand to answer questions about Whole Foods and the delicious and beautifully presented menu he has created for this special event.

Karen Cragnolin, executive director of RiverLink, reports, “I love the idea of tying together Thomas Wolfe’s’ thoughts about his youthful struggles and scenes of the river by 14 of Asheville’s most professional and outstanding artists. The river is changing daily both physically and in the public perception making this exhibit very timely. Our artists have been capturing scenes from the river, Plein Air style, for several months which seems very appropriate to both the times and the river. River icons such as the Cotton Mill and Ice House and now the Rail Road Round House are disappearing. We are so excited that these wonderful professional artists are capturing the river today and hosting a fundraiser for us and hope to make this an annual event that captures the changes that are sure to come as well as remind of our collective past. “
