With its strip malls and amusement parks, Orlando is rarely credited as a mecca for new music and creative inspiration. Perhaps that’s why the members of Wet Nurse spend their time in the Sunshine State shotgunning beers, spinning in office chairs, bar hopping and exploring the parameters of punk music. At least that’s what we know about the band’s creative process after watching the music video for recent single “Over It.”
Check it out yourself below or, better yet, catch the four rockers live at the Odditorium on Thursday, Sept. 17 — coincidentally, the same day Wet Nurse releases its sophomore album So It Goes on Recess Records.
More from the band’s management team:
So It Goes, the sophomore album from Orlando garage-pop quartet Wet Nurse, is equal parts messy relationships, bad decisions and even worse hangovers. In the three years since the release of their first full-length record, Daily Whatever, twin sisters Nina and Susana Chaplin have fine-tuned their harmonies, expanded their sound and fully embraced influences picked up from time on the road. Previously a power trio, the group is now rounded out by additional guitarist, Baile Yeager, and drummer Vanessa Brewster. Their sound has been described as reveling “in the sounds of both ’60s girl groups and ’60s garage rock” by Andrew Sacher of Brooklyn Vegan.
While fans were burning through second and third pressings of the first record on taste-making labels such as Lolipop (Los Angeles, CA) and Astro Girl (Italy), the band holed up in the studio to lay down some fresh ideas for their follow-up LP. Working quickly with producer Alastair St. Hill they emerged with twelve catchy pop gems fit for even the most discerning punk fan. You’ll find a little bit of everything, from the punishing “Vacation,” an ode to quitting your crappy job and going on a, well, you know – to the fan favorite “Belly Hurts,” which aims a one-two punch straight to the heart. So It Goes is set to be released on September 17th via Recess Records, with a cassette release to follow on Philadelphia’s Stupid Bag Records.
