From a press release:

Pan Harmonia November Concerts – Pan Harmonia presents two varied and arrestingly beautiful programs this November, each allowing unusual, and even forgotten, voices to be heard.

The second program of the Haen Gallery Series triptych takes place on Monday, November 3 in the Asheville Haen Gallery and Friday, November 7 in the Brevard Haen Gallery. These events begin with a 6:30 prelude of wine and generous snacks allowing audience members time to leisurely stroll through the gallery and take in exquisite paintings and sculptures. Music starts at 7:15.

The November set features longtime collaborative partners, flutist Kate Steinbeck and percussionist Byron Hedgepeth, playing compelling sounds of Asia, mid-century America song masters and jazz, tango and even JS Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

On Sunday, November 9, Pan Harmonia presents Elegy, its 6th Annual Holocaust Remembrance Concert, at 5 PM in the Manheimer Room, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC-Asheville. Admission to this event is free and open to the public.

Elegy is presented in commemoration of Kristallnacht or the Night of Broken Glass, a coordinated attack on Jewish people and their property in Nazi Germany and Austria through the night of November 9, 1938. The program illuminates the artistry of composers who perished in the Shoah and seeks to keep their voices heard. Music of Leo Smit and Vítězslava Kaprálová will be performed by Kate Steinbeck, flute, Fred Lemmons, clarinet, John Ravnan, viola, Ivan Seng, piano

Dutch-Portuguese composer Leo Smit’s music is warm, melodious, full of variety, classical in form with interesting harmonies. Vítězslava Kaprálová is considered the most important woman composer of the twentieth-century Czech music. She wrote music of great beauty, lyricism and depth.
