PRESS RELEASE FROM PARKWAY PLAYHOUSE:
Parkway Playhouse’s teen-improv comedy troupe, “Get the Hook” will perform on June 24 and 25 at Parkway Playhouse at 7:30pm. Tickets are $5.00 and are available at the door.
Get The Hook is a Vaudville term for when a look shepherd’s crook was used to yank performers offstage in the late 19th and early 20th Century. Parkway Playhouse’s newly formed teen improv troupe adopted the name because it sounded catchy and fun, as well as being an homage to the roots of live improv comedy.
Parkway Playhouse’s troupe consists features Burnsville area teens Levi Bradford, Anaka Happer, Avery Hughes, Elijah Briggs, Olivia Hughes, Hana Stella, and Paloma Soto. They first performed in last summer during a Parkway Playhouse Junior showcase, and have been gathering momentum and experience ever since. The troupe is under the direction of Parkway Playhouse General Manager, Kristen Livengood, a seasoned performer and teaching artist who happens to have a wealth of experience in improvisational comedy.
At the performance, which is interactive, performers lead the audience through a series of games that lead to sketches and scenes that are made up on the spot by the performers. The results are nothing short of hilarious.
