Pisgah Wildlife Education Center celebrates fishing, hunting and wildlife conservation

PRESS RELEASE:

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will host a free, family-friendly event celebrating fishing, hunting and wildlife conservation on Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education in Brevard.

The event is one of seven the Commission is offering to mark National Hunting and Fishing Day. Center staff has scheduled a variety of activities and exhibits for all ages and skill levels that include outdoor cooking, fishing and fly-casting and tying. Other events and demonstrations are a Backyard Bass game, the Huntmaster blind, and trout cooking over an open fire. For more information, contact Lee Sherrill at lee.sherrill@ncwildlife.org or 828-877-4423.

The Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education is partnering with the Federation of Fly Fishers, Trout Unlimited, N.C. Trappers Association, National Wild Turkey Federation and Quality Deer Management Association to host this year’s National Hunting and Fishing Day event.

The center is located near Brevard, just south of Asheville, alongside the Davidson River in Transylvania County. It features nature trails and five large aquariums representing different aquatic habitats. Visitors to the center can walk next door to the Bobby N. Setzer Fish Hatchery, where trout are raised in 54 raceways. The center’s hours of operation are 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m., Monday through Saturday from April through November and Monday through Friday from December through March. For more information, call 828-877-4423.

National Hunting Fishing Day occurs every fourth Saturday in September and is a nationwide grassroots effort that promotes outdoor sports and wildlife conservation. Visit the Commission’s National Hunting and Fishing Day page (ncwildlife.org/nhfd) for more information on events, including activities, demonstration and exhibits.
