More from Mars Hill University:
Mars Hill University will host a program called “The Many Paths to a Heart of Wisdom,” at 6 p.m. on March 3 in Bentley Fellowship Hall with Rabbi Nancy Fuchs-Kreimer, Ph.D., Director of the Department of Multifaith Studies and Initiatives and Associate Professor of Religious Studies, Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia, PA. Rabbi Fuchs-Kreimer is a co-founding board member, with Imam Yahva Hendi, of a multi-faith peace and justice organization calledClergy Beyond Borders, and she serves on many international and multi-faith initiatives.
The program will explore the rich traditions of Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity with respect to the ways they help people do the inner work needed for moral excellence. Among the questions to be examined will be the ways that the various faiths agree and disagree, as they seek to train their adherents to live with humility, courage, and compassion.
The program is free and open to the public. It will follow a full day of events on the Mars Hill campus with Rabbi Fuchs-Kreimer which are also open to the public and which are designed to encourage interfaith dialogue.
At 11 am on March 3, Rabbi Fuchs-Kreimer will be the speaker at Mars Hill’s Crossroads chapel service, where she will speak on the topic, “Caring for the Other.” At other times during the day, she will be speaking in classrooms and with groups of students, faculty and staff on topics related to moral psychology and religion, and on interfaith peacemaking.
While she is in the area, Rabbi Fuchs-Kreimer will have two additional speaking engagements:
· On Sunday, March 1, at 7 p.m. she will present a program at Congregation Beth Israel with Dr. Walter Ziffer, emeritus professor of Mars Hill University’s Religion Department. The program will be called “In Search of Human Unity: two scholars of religion share their experiences and perspectives.”
· On Monday, March 2, at 7 p.m., she will again speak on the topic, “The Many Paths to the Heart of Wisdom,” in Laurel Forum, Karpen Hall, at UNC Asheville.
Rabbi Fuchs-Kreimer’s visit to Mars Hill University is sponsored by the MHU Ethics-Across-the-Curriculum Program.
