PRESS RELEASE FROM ALOFT:

With the best rooftop venue in town, Aloft Asheville Downtown will kick off its 2016 Sundays Live@Aloft music series with a live performance by Hank West and the Smokin’ Hots from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on May 29th. The event is open to the public and a suggested $5 donation will benefit Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy. Held on the hotel’s rooftop Air Level, the event offers spectacular mountain views surrounding downtown Asheville. Aloft’s W XYZ bar will feature local craft brews, cocktail favorites and light snacks.

“We are excited to celebrate the official start of summer by kicking off our Sundays Live@Aloft series, which has quickly become an Asheville favorite, with a great performance by Hank West and the Smokin’ Hots,” said Aloft Asheville Downtown’s General Manager David McCartney. “The event also allows us to give back to a very important cause, Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy. We are proud to support their mission of preserving scenic vistas for our residents and tourists to enjoy as well as farmland that helps the local economy and provides food for many Asheville restaurants.”

The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy is one of the country’s oldest and most respected land trusts. They work to conserve the unique plant and animal habitats, clean water, local farmland and scenic beauty of the mountains of North Carolina and east Tennessee for the benefit of present and future generations. Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy has helped ensure the protection of more than 68,000 acres throughout the region, from the Highlands of Roan to the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Hank West and the Smokin’ Hots is a local band that plays music with a theatrical take on jazz, describing their music to be from the space age back in vintage fashion. Additional Sundays Live@Aloft events that have been scheduled for the 2016 season include:

• June 26th featuring Jim Arrendell and the Cheap Suits and benefitting The Genesis Alliance

• August 28th featuring Juan Benavides Group and benefitting Friends of Connect Buncombe

• September 25th benefitting LEAF Foundation (entertainment TBD)

• October 30th benefitting Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue (entertainment TBD)

The 2016 Live@Aloft series will feature a raffle fundraiser, and $5 raffle tickets will be on sale at each event. The grand prize is a package donated by Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort that is valued at $600 and includes a one night stay at the resort, dinner for two at Chef’s Stage Buffet, and breakfast for two at Selu Garden Café. The winner will be announced at the last Live@Aloft event in October.
