From a press release:
The Madison County Arts Council presents: Moira Craig and Carolyn Robson, Oct. 10
Madison County is known for its centuries old ballad tradition and now that tradition is coming for a visit. The Madison County Arts Council is proud to host two evenings of song from two of the finest performers of traditional music in the UK.
Moira Craig — one of the UK’s finest interpreters of ballads, her crystal clear singing is featured on Pastimes best selling “Celtic Airs and Ballads” and on her solo album, “Ae Bonny Day”. “When I heard Moira I was quite bowled over, and I am virtually NEVER bowled over.” Jerry Epstein
Carolyn Robson — is arguably the most glorious female voice to emerge from the thriving traditional music scene of the North East of England. Carolyn featured in HTV’s 2004 documentary about Cecil Sharp, and can be heard on numerous solo albums. “Consummate skill as a singer and musician.” Folk South West
“We are delighted that these two singers have put Madison County on their fall tour schedule of the US,” said Laura Boosinger, Executive Director of the Madison County Arts Council. “Cecil Sharp came to Madison County in 1915 searching for the English ballads. It will be thrilling to hear these singers of tradition present ballads from the old country to our audiences.”
Two nights of music and stories will be presented. Friday, October 10 will find the singers at the Madison County Arts Center in downtown Marshall. They will be accompanied with the pipe and fiddle playing of Paul Tabush. Also joining them will be Malcolm Austin singing humorous songs.
Friday, October 10 at 7:30 pm $10
