The Kalob Griffin Band plays Emerald Lounge on Aug. 29

Philadelphia-based Americana/rock outfit Kalob Griffin Band heads to Asheville for a show at Emerald Lounge on Thursday, Aug. 29. Matt Butcher & the Schoolyard Band and Elk Tracks also perform. 9 p.m., $5.

A bit about KGB from a press release: “The Kalob Griffin Band, or ‘KGB,’ as their followers chant, is composed of lead singer/songwriter Kalob Griffin, guitarist/banjoist/mandolinist Rob Dwyer, drummer Eric Lawry, and keyboardist John Hildenbrand. Griffin’s story-telling lyrical technique is reminiscent of Neil Young’s and the Band. The live performance and is as engaging and musically explosive as that of the Allman Brothers Band. Some even give the analogy, what if John Prine had Phish behind him?! The band has been reputably applauded for the live show experience that they provide.”
