A fundraising event will be held at the Block Off Biltmore, starting at 8:00 pm on Friday, May 28th, with performances by the Bathhouse Janitors (Atlanta, GA), wWAYLOn (New York, NY) and Brynn Estelle & Her Band (Asheville NC). Admission is available at the door on a $5 – $25 sliding scale, with proceeds to benefit Tranzmission, the Tranzmission Prison Project and the Transformers support group.
For over 15 years, Tranzmission has been dedicated to making the lives of transgender, gender variant, non-binary and genderqueer individuals healthier, happier and safer through education, advocacy and support. Projects include the Transformers support group and the Trazmission Prison Books Project. Tranzmission also organizes Asheville’s observances of Stonewall Commemoration Day and The Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Bathhouse Janitors are an Atlanta-based queer country punk band delivering hard-hitting lyrics on the pressing social issues of our time. According to founding member Will Dollinger, “The transgender community is under attack, we are looking forward to using our music to entertain the troops. Tranzmission is doing crucial work to provide support to the North Carolina transgender community.”
wWAYLOn gives you roses and thorns as he sings his brutal truths, bringing you “forward thinking” southern music. Mama went into labor at a Bluegrass festival in 1981 while his old man picked mandolin onstage, earning wWAYLOn the title “The Bluegrass Baby” by local media.
Brynn Estelle is an Asheville-based activist, organizer and arguably the foremost purveyor of autoharp-driven transfeminist folk punk in western North Carolina (at least). She is considered especially dangerous when backed by Her Band, a veritable Asheville supergroup composed entirely of local crackerjacks on a Mission for Justice.
