As part of National Women’s Small Business Month, the Western Women’s Business Center (WWBC) is hosting an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at its offices located at the AB Tech Small Business Center.
It’s an opportunity for women entrepreneurs to network, learn about upcoming events, and meet the WWBC’s new staff members. The WWBC, which is approaching its fifth anniversary, offers access to capital and free business coaching. Light refreshments and a short introduction to programs and resources will be provided.
“We think Women’s Small Business Month is a great time to come together to talk about what’s next for current and future women entrepreneurs in our region,” said Sharon Oxendine, Director of the WWBC. “We invite business leaders and all of our partners to be a part of that conversation.”
As a program of Carolina Small Business Development Fund, the WWBC’s mission is to serve women and minorities in all 25 counties in Western North Carolina.
“We recognize work remains to be done to realize the maximum potential of women in business,” said Lenwood V. Long, President and CEO of Carolina Small Business. “I am proud to say that, while 22% of small businesses are owned by women, 38% of our loans are to borrowers who are women.”
Women are a driving force in the nation’s economy. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, women own 9.9 million companies that employ more than 8 million people and provide $264 billion in wages to employees.
