Full announcement from the city of Asheville:
ASHEVILLE – The National Weather Service winter weather advisory and high wind warning continue in Asheville and the surrounding areas through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Currently, the area is experiencing sporadic snow showers, with temperatures around 32 degrees with a northwesterly wind at 24 mph, and gusts to 33 mph. The wind chill is 19 degrees. Snow showers are expected to continue, mainly before 1 p.m. with daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Public Works crews with 16 trucks are spreading salt and sand on the roads. Roads are wet, but drivers should be extremely cautious of slick spots due to snow or ice.
Ride the ART buses are currently running according to normal schedule, but are closely monitoring road conditions. Riders should check for updates at www.ridetheart.com or (828) 253-5691.
Public Safety reports that call volume is at normal levels.
High winds along with saturated soil could lead to fallen trees and power outages. To report a power outage, please call Duke Energy Progress at 1-800-769-3766 or go to www.progressenergy.com.
City of Asheville Water Resources Crews are also on call 24 hours a day in case of water line breaks. In the case of a waterline break, please call (828) 251-1122.
