Press release

Published composer-performer Tryst from Rhythm Tryst.com has partnered with Western North Carolina furniture designers and manufacturers to produce the Rokher [ROCK-her] musician’s ergonomic rocking chair, rolling out from Asheville now with a sleek Euro-design and stellar reviews. Four years in the making, the Rokher is heirloom quality, high-design décor with a rocking soul.

Tryst explains how the union of style and function was conceived. “I’ve been orchestrating for 20-plus years. Inevitably, I’d be at the chiropractor’s office every month with chronic tension and debilitating nerve tingling. I knew the hours required to really craft and perfect a song, let alone the 60 hours required to produce it in the recording studio, provided the catalyst to the culprit: lousy chairs that didn’t support my exacting needs for form and comfort.”

The Rokher is patented and focused on ‘owning the category’ as the preeminent acoustic musician rocking chair for home and studio use. The unique, guitar headstock-shaped chair back comes in female-centric finish colors of blonde (natural), brunette (mahogany), redhead (cherry), and ebony (black). The Rokher also is also available by special order with custom guitar headstock-shaped cuts. They come with appropriate color-coded rocker bases that are shaped like instrument tuning heads. The Rokher’s sustainable hardwoods are locally sourced with all design, prototyping, manufacturing, joinery, finishing and assembly done right here in Asheville and Hickory, NC.

Tryst explains his market’s needs. “Hobbyists (the fastest growing category) and professional musicians require proper seat and lumbar support to maintain healthy posture to enjoy extended playing time. Most standard rocking chairs have arms that block the body of the acoustic instrument. They usually have a ridged posture in the seat-to-back angle without proper lumbar support. The Rokher’s one-piece seat-to-back construction is especially designed for healthy seat and lumbar support, with a smooth graduating rocker radius for rocking or a forward, erect playing position. This chair is crafted and constructed as heirloom quality, interior décor artwork with heavy-duty joinery built to last for generations.”

The Rokher’s unique design and ergonomic development began four years ago when Tryst reached out to master furniture craftsman Robert Harper. Tryst shares, “My vision was minimalist and sleek to emulate the guitar head-stock shape for the chair back, with tuning head-style rocker base. In sharing the musician’s posture needs, we developed the one piece bent wood, form- fitting chair back and the seat ergonomics for the Rokher. To accommodate the varying body weights of our target market, we routed, glued and screwed horizontal cleats into the chair body for the hardwood rocker bases to attach to. This advanced engineering is paramount to help eliminating squeaks in the recording studio. The first Rokher model is called the Raven, with a Maple veneer on the front and back of the chair. Exotic woods to match your guitar will be available for custom orders where you can pick your headstock shape, color, and finishing to match your guitar’s finish color (e.g. Sunburst).”

The Rokher has been making the rounds, from the summer National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) event where they opened discussions with three international guitar brands for custom chairs that match their head stocks, to the Highpoint International Furniture Market where they secured two national reps to work in the interior design and recording studio categories. Nashville Designer Rep Mel Flaherty explains, “The Rokher is an amazing chair, not only from a musician’s functionality perspective, but it is also a really stylish décor appointment for home and studio.” Maria Etcheverry – SE Designer Rep shares that, “Formal living rooms are being replaced with music rooms or studies – the Rokher’s clean lines and functional furniture aspect showcase well in these homes.” Trumpeter and band leader Hank Westmoreland of Hank West and the Smokin’ Hots says, “The Rokher is way-comfortable, and the rocking keeps the blood and creativity moving while you’re working the long hours – love this chair.” Band leader Andrew Scotchie shares, “The Rokher’s tagline ‘Kick back – Rock ON’ sums it up – this chair rocks.”
