Press release:
Woodfin, NC – April 4, 2022 – The public is invited to attend the grand opening of Woodfin’s new Silver-Line Park, located at 1054 Riverside Drive on Thursday, April 21, 2022. The celebration will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by Mayor VeHaun and honored guests and will include a dedication of the park’s iconic Pirate Ship Playground to the former Woodfin Town Administrator, Jason Young. Complimentary food will be available and t-shirts bearing the town’s new parks & recreation logo will be provided while supplies last.
The $3.2 million Silver-Line Park provides a wide variety of recreational opportunities and amenities, including boat ramp access to the French Broad River, picnic shelters, a playground, greenway and other walking trails, and connection to the Craggy Mountain Rail Line. The park also includes a riverbank restoration project and features a boardwalk through natural and constructed wetlands. Parking and restroom facilities are available onsite.
“The Town of Woodfin is very grateful to the Silver family, our community partners, and former Town Administrator, Jason Young, for their vision and commitment to the well-being of our community that has provided us this treasured addition to our parks system,” states newly appointed Town Manager, Shannon Tuch.
Silver-Line Park is part of the Woodfin Greenway & Blueway project that is an ambitious $18.7 million effort to construct recreational facilities and five miles of greenway along the French Broad River and Beaverdam Creek. A much-anticipated feature of the project will be the in-stream Whitewater Wave as part of the Riverside Park expansion, with an expected completion date in mid-2025.
Project partners are Buncombe County Recreation Services and RiverLink. Major funding for the project comes from the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority, NC Departments of Transportation and Environmental Quality, Buncombe County, and the taxpayers of Woodfin.
