Holiday blues got you down? A flurry of local workshops, wine tastings and tea parties offer opportunities to infuse your holiday social calendar with culinary merriment. With so much deliciousness (and/or alcohol) in your belly you’ll be rendered incapable of muttering “humbug.”

Holiday Candies Workshop at Dough
6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10. Cost: $55
Sweet-tooths will rejoice in Chef Brian’s tutelage in candy-making. Participants will learn how to create toffee, peppermint marshmallows and chocolate-dipped candied orange peel.

Traditional Italian Christmas Feast Workshop at Dough
6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12. Cost: $60
Assist Chef Emi in her preparation of braised beef, parmesan pasta parcels in a beef broth, and traditional amaretti biscotti, and afterward savor the spoils.

Grown-up Science Night at Hands On! A Child’s Gallery
7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Cost: $15/ticket; $25/couple.
It’s a parental party night at Hands On! A Child’s Gallery in Hendersonville, and it ain’t a party without wine and chocolate. Learn what’s involved in the creation of both grown-up treats with the folks from Falderal Winery, Kilwins, Fountainhead Bookstore and Dancing Bear Toys. Door prizes and goods from participating partners for sale on-site.  Proceeds to benefit Hands-On! A Child’s Gallery.

Gingerbread House Tea at the Inn on Biltmore Estate
1 p.m. Thursday Dec. 19 – Saturday Dec. 21.  Cost: $49/person.
Pinkies up!  Participants will enjoy an exquisite tea service and nibble miniature sandwiches while constructing a gingerbread house under the sage guidance of a Biltmore pastry chef.
