Social Lounge gets a face-lift

The management of Social Lounge and Tapas, formerly Sazerac, announced this week that a face-lift is in the works for the popular two-story bar and rooftop patio. Manager Aubury Phillips says the bar will close for remodeling starting Monday, Feb. 16.

Scheduled changes include removing a large portion of the bar and replacing it with comfy couches and tables to create more of a lounge vibe. (Unfortunately, it sounds like the beautiful iconic wooden structure that hangs above the bar will be going as well.)  The plan is also to develop a space at the back of the main floor to accommodate a piano and live musicians with jazz as the focus. A new food menu, different from the menu of Italian standards the restaurant currently shares with its neighbor, Strada Italiano, is also on the horizon.

The blitz of enhancements is expected to be completed by early March, marking the bar’s first major overhaul since its name change in March 2013. If you have a hankering for a Social Lounge cocktail or want to see a favorite bartender during the weeks of the renovation, the staff will be slinging drinks and waiting tables next door at Strada until the work is finished.
