The first “TransPositive Support” meeting will be a meet-and-greet luncheon on Thursday, March 28, at noon.
TransHealth Coordinators and Western North Carolina AIDS Project are combining efforts to offer a new HIV+peer support network in the Asheville area, says Jennifer Barge, director of TransHealth. “TransPositive Support” will focus on empowering transgender, gender-nonconforming and intersex people with HIV+ status, she explains. It will also offer support regarding obtaining housing, job discrimination, and access to respectful and compassionate health care — along with leadership, community building and outreach training.
“By offering a trans specific support network here in the Asheville area we hope to bridge the gap and serve the needs of our local transgender community,” says Barge.
Meetings will be held twice a month, each second and last Thursday, at the WNCAP offices on Fairview Road. For more information, email Barge at transhealth@rocketmail.com, or visit www.transhealthcoordinators.org.
